Catch Report |
| March 2006 |
It was a cold month, freezing during nights and with a weak sun in the daytime. But still, in a few hours here and there, I managed to put on the bank some of the "Royal" beauties as shown in the first three pictures in my gallery. |
| 15th - 29th of April 2006 |
April came full of surprises - 25 carp for the last two weeks, fishing mainly nights. Here is my tally up - 3 doubles, 12 x 20's, 30 3/4lb, 2 x 32lb, 35lb, 39lb, 38lb, 33lb, 37lb, 30 1/2lb & 34 1/2lb.
It was a good month for all our customers and a blinding start of the season! |
| May 2006 |
Well, May was another good one for fishing... we had many returned customers, plenty of fish caught and other stories to tell. As far as I was concerned, I could sneak in only nights and I was lucky to bank 30 fish! Amongst them a lifetime target - 56lb catfish and what a wrestling match it was in the middle of the night...
Fish list for May: carp - 2 doubles, 17 x 20's, 31lb, 2 x 32lb, 33lb, 36lb, 35 1/2lb, 36lb & catfish - 8lb, 17lb, 33 3/4lb & 56lb. |
| June 2006 |
The hot weather was here and the fishing got slower. I did just some nights and I managed to land 18 fish, 7 of them in a 6 hours session but about this you'll find details separately.
The fish caught: 1 double, 4 x 20's, 3 x 30lb, 30 1/2lb, 31lb, 33lb, 2 x 34lb, 35lb, 39lb, 40 3/4lb, 41lb & 28lb catfish. |
| 48 hours getting it right! 2006 |
No guests so a good opportunity for Dad and I to sit and fish. No nights, just days as Dad is too old to fish at night on his own - ha, ha! I spent only 6 hours on the bank due to me taking the privilege to get out and about on my trusty steed, my bike. This is the reason there is no picture of Dad's big one - sorry Dad! We used 25 kilos of Royal Blacks over 48 hours and the list is as follows.
Dad - 45lb, 25lb, 51lb, 34lb, 37 1/4lb leather, 42 1/4lb leather, 24 1/2lb catfish, 26lb, 33lb, 30lb, 45lb, 10lb catfish, 35lb, 13lb, 25lb, 23 3/4lb common, 24lb, 24lb leather, 18lb, 15 1/2lb, 40lb & 25lb - a total of 22 fish landed.
Me - 31lb, 35lb, 30 1/2lb, 24lb, 17lb, 34lb & 33lb - 7 fish.
And no guests! Never thought we would be able to fish our lake on our own in the middle of June. A very satisfying session for both of us! Some of Dad's pictures I managed to take, in those 6 hours I was here, are on his gallery.
P.S. The free holiday still stands for the first guest to land a 50lb carp verified by myself or Dad. |
| July 2006 |
Not a lot to report from July, the weather was very hot and the fishing slow, consequently I kept myself busy during days with many chores and attending our guests. Nights were better but, hey, I had to squeeze in some sleep.
Now going into August with awesome weather, cool and mixed at times, I will be back!! Check for my report soon. |
| August 2006 |
Week 12 - 19 of August. For a quiet week, I mean no anglers on the lake, it turned out to be a surprise. Seeing that the weather was mixed I had to have a go! I made my rigs up as I always do (as shown on My tips and advice), air dried boilies as hard hookbaits and a few good kilos of Royal blacks. I wasn't going to fish all through the night. Saying that it was no need as the scaly beasts kept coming... I did 3 days, 5 hours each and I had 19 fish. I just couldn't stop catching!! Here is my list - 14lb, 18lb, 24lb common, 2 x 25lb, 2 x 30lb, 31lb, 32lb, 34lb common, 35lb, 36lb, 37lb, 37 1/2lb, 40lb, 2 x 41lb, 43lb & 44lb. I would say not bad for 15 hours, five of those 19 fish being over 40lb. I'll be back in September! |
| September 2006 |
Not many fish caught by myself this month due to being kept very busy by our guests who landed over 300 carp between them. The weather still very beautiful, the fish are beginning to get their winter colours and are putting on weight ready for the colder season. So I expect to see a good head of 40lb+ fish being caught in the next two or three months. |
| October 2006 |
Back in the business! This month I managed 25 fish, better than the nine last month. As I predicted the fish are getting bigger! The first week 4 new forties were caught, all having put on between 3 and 5 lb since spring. I had a good session amongst odd hours here and there, fishing two nights and landing 6 stunning creatures, two of them over 40lb. I was a happy chappie. It also gave me pleasure to take two of our guests fishing the big lake after they managed to bank over 120 carp from the small lake. And even more so when one of them landed the double linear at a new weight of 47lb, a rise of 3lb since July. Will see what November brings!? |
| November 2006 |
November fishing... not the best for me this year. I still managed a few the first two weeks whilst there were some other anglers on the lake. Winter's grip started to be felt across the land. The weather wasn't with me and I thought it was the right time to give the carp a rest. In fact I had in mind to look for pike. There are many in our lakes and I enjoy catching them. Another option was to watch some tele indoors next to our log fire... What would you have done?? |
| December 2006 |
Although I thought I'd packed up fishing for this year, by mid December I changed my mind. The weather was right and I decided on taking advantage of the warm spell before Christmas. I don't require much to go fishing on my own these days, my three rods, boilies (our Winter Royals), the usual rigs and four bait stringers. I make sure I use my usual ploy of putting 20 - 30 boilies around each hookbait with my throwing stick to give a wider grazing area. I had to bank one before going on holiday! |
| 10th of December 2006 |
Off I went with my appropriate gear and guess what?? FOUR HOURS LATER, under my belt I had two commons - 17lb and 36lb and two mirrors - 25lb & 36lb! The best chances for a catch, in colder weather, are in the middle of the day. And that definitely made my day. |
| My new PB!!!! Have a look 14th of December 2006 |
The fishing gods were smiling on me so I decided to try my luck for another few hours. Many of us who enjoy fishing would say that our best memories would, in some way, deal with the quality or perhaps even quantity of the fish we caught. Many of our special moments happen when we expect less. I experienced this on a sunny day of December. A 47lb mirror carp blessed my rods, followed by a 32lb, a 26lb and to end up a brilliant fishing session, a 32lb common. All this in less than 6 hours. |
| 18th of December 2006 |
I was decided to catch a few more before I went on holiday and I was prepared to spend more hours on the bank thinking of a way to subdue these wild creatures. Four fish later, caught in four hours, I told myself that it was about time I gave the water an well deserved rest. My tally - 18lb, 22lb, 30lb common & 42lb. The 42lb coming last was even more appreciated! |
| Conclusion 2006 |
Ever since I can remember, fishing has been a huge part of my life. The saga will continue... The end. |
